and i do mean beginner, I’ve only ever been boarding once.

I prolly won’t buy my board for a long time, but I’m trying to learn as much as I can.
It’s so much fun! I hope to go again soon. (:
Any extra information is appreciated. Thank You!

ive been boarding for a while and ive learned alot. pretty experienced so here you go:

if you like to just go down the mountain and whatever and just glide around, free ride is your board. its longer and thats what makes it easier.

if you want to start getting into jumps and ramps and grinding rails and whatnot, then freestyle is your board due to the shortness so you can pull 180′s and show up the boys.

if you want a little of both, all mountain. but your best bet is to pick one seeing all mountain is like…boring. what you def. dont want to do is buy a freeride and then go doing jumps because the board is alot heavier and hard to lift.

Freeride: longer in length, and semi-directional. Moderate to stiff in flex. Used for long, fast turns in various types of snow from groomed hard-pack to soft powder.

Freestyle: Generally shorter in length with a Semi-directional or twin-tip shape. Moderate to soft in flex. Incorporates a deep sidecut for quick/tight turning. Used in the pipe and in the park on various jumps and terrain features including boxes, rails, and tables.

All-Mountain: A hybrid between freeride and freestyle boards. The ‘jack of all trades, master of none.’ Normally directional in shape with either a twin or directional flex. Moderate in flex for various types of terrain.

That pretty much sums it up.

I’m about 5’4" around 145 lbs. (which is subject to change). Im about to learn how to snowboard, I skateboard so i’m sure i’ll catch on pretty quick. But I would like to know what size and style snowboard I would need. I want to hit up the park and do rails and jumps, but I would also like to just ride around for fun. I’m also going to Alaska late in the upcoming winter and I want to board some backcountry as well. So if anyone could please tell me what size and style I should get it would be greatly appreciated. And also what a good brand would be the four im considering are Burton, Forum, Arbor, and Option. I’d kinda like an all around board!

Thanks for the answers!!!

Aaron T.

The style of snowboard you need is an All Mountain board these boards can be used for all types of riding. You can use them in the park for rails and jumps and also for freeriding and riding in powder, they are the best sort of board to get for a begineer rider such as yourself.
The size you need to get according to your height and weight for an all mountain board is around a 153. Even if you put on a bit of weight you will be better off with a board on the small size as they are easier to control and turn than larger boards and are easyier to learn the basics on.
Ive listed some boards below made buy the brands you have mentioned that would suit you and the type of riding you want to do. Good luck.

Burton Clash
Forum Recon
Arbor Formula
Option GT
